with your client: 8 Steps

One Discuss Past Quit Attempts: What worked?

Questions Health Care providers should ask about past quit attempts:

  • When did your last quit attempt take place?

  • What method of smoking cessation did you use?

  • What did you find difficult about this method of smoking cessation?

  • What was the motivation behind your last quit attempt?

  • Who supported you during your last quit attempt?

  • What prompted you to start smoking again?

  • What concerns do you have about quitting with the new method of smoking cessation?
