Introduction
This learning module was developed to provide a basic overview of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as well as to provide links to other websites that contain more detailed information about HIPAA compliance.

Purpose

  1. Assist health care providers in understanding the HIPAA regulations,
  2. Help health care providers comply with HIPAA regulations, and
  3. Provide an educational resource to help providers fulfill their obligations required by HIPAA to educate officers, employees, and others who have access to medical information.

Audience
This information and policies in this module are appropriate for health educators, nurses, physicians, social workers and other health care professionals who work in a health care setting.
