- Hepatitis is responsible for approximately 14,000 - 16,000 deaths annually in the United States, with hepatitis C (HCV)
alone killing 8-10,000 individuals .
- The CDC estimates that 1.25 million Americans are currently living with chronic hepatitis B (HBV)
infection and 3.2 million living with HCV infection.
- In 2005, the CDC estimated the following number of new infections:
- 42,000 of HAV
- 51,000 of HBV
- 20,000 of HCV
Notice that HAV is the most common type of viral hepatitis. HCV actually causes more harm than HAV and HBV combined.
