ConclusionViral hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E, while all affect the liver, have different incidence and prevalence rates in the United States with A, B and C being the most common. Furthermore, these various types of hepatitis all have differences and similarities in regard to transmission, prevention and treatment. Since hepatitis A and B are preventable by vaccine and C has risk factors similar to HIV, it seems appropriate to integrate hepatitis testing into family planning clinics. While time and money are the most widely cited barriers among clinics in regards to integration, the process can be accomplished with a little extra. If you would like more information about integration, would like guidance, or training, please contact HCET at info@hcet.org. |
