    3. Benefits of a Science-Based Approach

    Science-based approaches to adolescent reproductive health interventions provide a rationale for a program’s purpose, activities, and its impact on youth. This approach provides program administrators and youth-serving professionals the opportunity to [15]:

    • Combine effective pregnancy, STI, and HIV prevention interventions with youth development strategies.
    • Clearly identify the impact of its programs, activities, and efforts.
    • Ensure that resources expended are worth the cost of producing a program.
    • Meet funding requirements.
    • Provide evidence to funders showing that the program is on target to achieve specified goals.
    • Increase opportunities for success in producing a positive and measurable impact on teen sexual behaviors.
    • Refine programs, promote successes, and avoid negative outcomes.
    • Collaborate with other related organizations to increase resources available to teens.
    • Contribute valuable lessons to the field of adolescent pregnancy and/or STI/HIV prevention.
    • Increase a program’s capacity to sustain and replicate program activities.
