- 7.5 Nursing contact hours will
be available for registrants attending both the AM and PM sessions, consisting
of 4.2 hours for the AM session and 3.3 hours for the PM session. Registrants
who attend either the AM or PM sessions are eligible to receive those hours.
($10 processing fee)

Registration fee is $25 for both
workshops for Ohio MCH or Ohio Title X Family Planning staff and sub-grantees, $15 for one session -
Registration fee is $70 for both
workshops for Non-Ohio MCH or Non-Ohio Title X Family Planning staff and
sub-grantees, $45 for one session

To give healthcare providers tools to
learn Spanish phrases that will be useful in the
workplace.
- Demonstrate appropriate Spanish
pronunciation and comprehension,
- Use the template and vocabulary lists
to develop their own sentences and
survival phrases.
- Develop scripts that will be used to
communicate with Spanish-speaking
clients - exams, scheduling, “survival”
phrases.

To provide an overview of Hispanic
socio-cultural issues that impact their access to
healthcare and use of family planning services.
- Identify at least 5 socio-cultural issues
related to Hispanics’ utilization of
healthcare services in the U.S.
- Identify at least 3 specific issues
related to Hispanics’ use of family
planning services.
- Identify at least 2 issues related to
adolescent pregnancy and prevention
among Hispanics.

Presenter
- Michelle Scott, RN, BSN, BA,
-
founded Spanish
Translations, Etc. (now Voices for Health) in 1997
to help health care providers better meet the needs
of the Hispanic community through linguistically and
culturally appropriate services. She designed two
“Spanish Language and Culture for Health Care
Providers” courses, and has taught over 30 of these
courses in west Michigan during the past four years.
Ms. Scott has also presented numerous seminars
and trainings on topics about Hispanic Culture,
Migrant Farm-worker Culture, Home and Camp
Outreach, as well as Interpreting Skills. She is fluent
in Spanish and provides medical interpretation and
translation.
