Position Statements
Professional medical associations, including the American Medical Association and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, have identified access to emergency contraception as an essential part of effective and successful contraception for women and couples.* A recent study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology reported that women receiving advance prescription of emergency contraception (APEC) were six times more likely to use it than those without APEC.* A 2003 policy statement from the American Publish Health Association estimates half of unintended pregnancies could be avoided with increased EC information and timely access.

AMWA's Position Statement on Emergency Contraception
